How to use this app

Can I afford it? β€” a step-by-step guide

This app answers one question: do I have enough money to buy what I want? It is free, private, and works without internet.

1. Put in your money

Tap the My money box at the top and type how much money you have. That is all you need to do β€” the answer works itself out at the bottom of the screen.

Type your money in the box. The round πŸ’΅ button is for counting notes and coins. The 🎀 inside the box is for saying the amount. Both only show while the box is empty.

Not sure how much you have? Tap the round πŸ’΅ button next to My money. Then tap a picture for each note and coin in your wallet. The app adds them up for you. Tap βœ” Done when you finish.

The πŸ’΅ button only shows while the money box is empty. To count your notes again, tap the βœ• in the box first.

2. Add the things you want to buy

Under Things I want to buy, type the price of the thing you want. The price is on the tag or the shelf.

Want more than one thing? Tap οΌ‹ Add another thing and type the next price. That button only appears once the last price box has something in it, so you never end up with empty boxes.

3. Read the answer

The answer is always at the bottom of the screen. It updates by itself β€” you do not need to press anything.

βœ… Green means YES β€” you have enough money. It also shows how much money you will have left.

Made a mistake in one box? Tap the βœ• inside that box to empty it. To clear everything at once, tap the round βœ• next to Start over at the top. Either way a Put it back button appears for a few seconds, in case you did not mean to.

Speak instead of typing

You do not have to type. Every empty money box shows a 🎀 button inside it. You can say the money out loud.

  1. Tap the 🎀 inside an empty money box. A small Tap 🎀, say your money window opens, and the keyboard appears.
  2. Tap the microphone 🎀 button on the keyboard.
  3. Say the amount. For example: β€œten dollars fifty”.
  4. The window shows the money it heard. Tap βœ” Done and the number goes into the box.

Once a number is in the box, the 🎀 turns into a βœ•. Want to say a new amount? Tap the βœ• to empty the box and the 🎀 comes back.

The Tap microphone, say your money window on top of the app. It says: Tap the microphone on your keyboard, then say the amount. A text box shows the words ten dollars fifty, and below it the app says: That is $10.50. There are Cancel and Done buttons.

πŸ’‘ It is okay to say it your own way β€” β€œten fifty”, β€œ10 dollars and 50 cents” and β€œ$10.50” all work.

Put the app on your home screen

Add the app to your phone's home screen. Then it opens with one tap, like a normal app β€” even without internet.

iPhone or iPad (Safari)

  1. Open simplify.whiz.coach in the Safari app.
  2. Tap the Share button β€” the square with the arrow, at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add.

Android (Chrome)

  1. Open simplify.whiz.coach in the Chrome app.
  2. Tap the menu button β€” the three dots at the top right.
  3. Tap Add to Home screen (or Install app).
  4. Tap Add (or Install).

Now look at your home screen. Tap the new Can I afford it? icon any time.

πŸ’‘ The app remembers your numbers. Count your money at home, then check the answer at the shop β€” no internet needed.

Your money stays private

Everything stays on your phone. Nothing is sent anywhere. There is no account and no sign-in.
